Welcome to Starbrick Gallery
Housed in a beautifully restored, historic Victorian storefront, the Starbrick Cooperative Gallery is a Fine Art and Gift Cooperative featuring the work of 30 local and regional artists. Visitors have the opportunity to meet artists on location, in the gallery or working on site. The Gallery is filled with pottery, glass, jewelry, clothing, wood works, paintings, handmade cards, photographs, and many more unique handcrafted gifts. We also offer regularly scheduled quarterly classes, private lessons, home school classes, and workshops.
Starbrick Gallery opens a new artist exhibit every month, with opening night on the Final Friday community art walk. This art event is held the last Friday of every month, except December. Galleries and retail shops stay open late, from 6-10 PM. Enjoy artists’ demonstrations, artists at work in studios, openings of new art exhibits, plays and musical shows. Join street musicians, dancers, and sidewalk entertainment amidst artists & craftspeople selling their wares.
Tucked in the Foothills of Ohio’s Appalachia, Nelsonville has become a center for regional arts and crafts. Starbrick Gallery is located in the Historic Square Art District of this small town. Here, trademark star bricks were manufactured in the 19th century. Boasting a vein of #5 clay that produced some of the hardest & most durable pavers in the world, the starbrick became world famous. Starbrick Gallery has adopted this symbol of Nelsonville’s past in their efforts to contribute to Nelsonville’s future.

The Starbrick Clay National Cup Show will be held September 25 –October 25, 2011. Juror is Kristen Kieffer. Open to cups, mugs, goblets, tea bowls, teacups and tumblers. Juried from digital. Fee: $20 for three entries; $30 for five entries.

March 25 - Opening Night: Voyeurism: Outside Looking In by Ted Steiner. An intriguing look into the human psyche, shown in black and white photography. 6-10pm.
April 29 - Opening Night: TGI-Spring! A tribute to mom, earth day and spring, all rolled into one great group show by the cooperative artists of Starbrick. 6-10pm.
May 27 - Opening Night: Wearable Art by Amanda Buchanan, Holly Cagle and Judy Klaer-Kerns. Featuring silver & glass jewelry, knit clothing and tie-die clothing and accessories. 6-10pm.
June 24 - Opening Night: Celtic Wild by Kelly Lawrence and Melinda Armstrong. Deep in the wilds we find the mysteries that connect with an ancient land. Two artists interpret the legends of the ancient Celtic culture with a mixture of mediums 6-10pm.
July 29 - Opening Night: Wizards Yard Sale by Paul Kern. Fine handcrafted wood objects, from hanging cupboards, boxes, puzzles and walking sticks to small furniture and dulcimers. Special musical guest Laura Elder on dulcimer. ALSO (July 29th only) : Ice Cream Sundae Bowl-A-Rama! Buy the bowl, and top your sundae to your hearts content. 6-10pm.
August 26 - Opening Night: Figurativly Speaking. A group show that examines the many aspects of the figure as art from the co-op artists of Starbrick.

September 30 - Opening Night: Starbrick National Cup Show 2011 - A national exhibition of contemporary ceramic cups, mugs, goblets, tea bowls, teacups and tumblers. Juried by nationally known ceramic artist and workshop presenter, Kristen Kieffer.

October 28 - Opening Night: Women of the Beijing Opera. Fiber artist Judy Klaer Kerns and ceramic artist Sue Hazen present a visual communication of character & culture while focusing on kimono styles & face painting of the Beijing Opera. Also, come celebrate Starbrick’s 10 Year Anniversary!

November 25 - November Final Friday-Shopping Alternative. Make your shopping dollars count for more! Give one-of-a-kind gifts of handmade art this holiday season. Skip the mall madness. Enjoy a community art event while you Holiday shop on the Square. 6-10pm.
